Take a walk from the East Side Gallery to Holzmarkt

Like a local, City tips, Party

In Berlin, you can learn history while looking at graffiti.

To pay tribute to freedom and to the hope of creating a better world after the fall of the wall in 1989, 118 artists from 21 countries painted what is now called the East Side Gallery; the largest outdoor gallery in the world.  A must if you visit Berlin!

Right in the neighbourhood of the East Side Gallery, the alternative Holzmarkt with its colourful street art and positive vibes will also certainly inspire you. Besides being the best spot to take cool pictures, it is perfect for chilling there with your travelling buds while having a beer in front of the Spree river. Inside Holzmarkt, don’t miss the smallest disco in the world: for one Euro you can have a party experience in a telephone booth!

You are not fully aware of Berlin’s history until you are there and you see that everything that has been told to you is real. It’s so shocking and so sad to realise that someone decided that taking away people’s freedom and splitting families was the best thing to do.
