Experiencing the Middle Ages in Lidzbark Warmiński, Poland

Achilleas and Luna visited a magnificent Gothic castle in Lidzbark Warmiński. It was much more than a visit, rather a role-playing game. They could move around freely and experience life it the Middle Ages, all dressed up for the occasion, Luna as a maid, Achilleas as a bishop!

Middle Ages 1

The Castle dates back from the 14th century and is located in the town of Lidzbark Warmiński, Poland. It is very beloved in the country and impressively well preserved, although it witnessed a lot of wars. It was conquered by some Teutonic Knights and changed hands several times, and at some point, it was chosen as the seat for the bishops of Warmia (hence the role played by Achilleas). In the 14th Century , the city became a rich centre of faith and culture known as the “Pearl of Warmia”.

Middle Ages 2

The castle had several prominent residents. One of the bishops was the uncle of Nicolaus Copernicus, and Copernicus himself lived at the castle for eight years.

And it was just that uncle that Achilleas was dressed up as, feeling all holy and mighty but still connected with maid Luna, and even ready to celebrate her wedding.

A wedding? But with whom?? Watch the weekly video to know everything about their time travel.

Mending things - and lives in Ingolstadt

The setting of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the old fortress city of Ingolstadt must be about as German as they come. There are gabled merchants’ houses. Military grounds turned into parks. There is beer and there are cars – the Bavarian regulation on the purity of beer (it cannot contain just anything!) comes from here, and the city hosts the Audi HQ.

Achilleas is getting ready!

“The Baltic Route is coming and I’m still blown away! I have prepared some warm clothes (doesn’t matter that it’s August, I’m Greek, we don’t survive in the North). Come explore with us some of the most beautiful, but overlooked countries in Europe!” – Achilleas
